The school board had a single concept and a single rule that seemed to contradict each other. The concept was to have a grass rooftop which will not be open to public as a normal condition of rules. Of course there would be occasions where running on grass tops would be allowed. The design began with the large grass roof which originally was connected to the main school. The some of the roof parts were turned into spectator seats and stairs.
The different level of the school ground and pedestrian passage was buffered by this building. The building is almost 100m long and faced much traffic noise. A lot of studies were done to reduce the noise, but due to budget problems the separate sound-proof wall was dropped and the smaller windowed version of single wall design was finalized.
The gentle slope of grass and wood floors were meant to give a feeling of less regimentation, and more freedom for those school boys and girls in the strict Korean education system.
