A spaceship with many apertures is floating over the forest, and it reminds us of an ancient school of sutras floating among the clouds. The basic spatial design of this project is to provide independence to each specific-function rooms, and to facilitate connecting-processional space to each specific function rooms, The specific-function rooms(sfr) are independent and also open to outdoor space by complete system of window-walls.
The connecting space is designed with the aim of providing more than a mere corridor space-spatial quality, able to accommodate and encourage non-specific uses. (non-specific-function-space: nsfs for short). The sfr is composed of spaces meeting the character of its functions, while nsfs has much emphasis on providing a sense of floatation.
The overall shape of the building is simple with curve-linear definition bordered by sky-walkways, but the vertical organization of the building is rich with differentiated levels and complex relationships. The sfr has many special rooms, for example the internet operating space (the red floating potato), is designed with irregular walls and ceilings and has three levels, which cannot be assumed just by main building comp- ositions, and allows the implicit existence of virtual space(cyber-space).
The light is invited through the apertures that are indirect light-wells. The library and study is composed of complete open window-wall system. They can accommodate both the sitting and squatting. The book cafe is the best space, where the great views are possible. The nsfs has sky walkways that do and do-not connect to sfr and the level and width differences make it a rich experiential space.
